HWY 395, California, 2006/7

In 2006, I set out to start photographing from the road for the first time, taking with me the 8x10 Century Universal view camera and 8x10 black-and-white and color Polaroid films I’d been experimenting with in my Los Angeles studio. A handful of those large format Polaroids, as well as later pack-film photographs, can be seen in my 2016 special limited edition instant film issue of Refueled magazine by clicking the tab below. I’d only been out on two occasions with the big Polaroid films before making conventional films my primary medium in 2008, but those initial road trips would prove instrumental in defining my approach to photography
